For a split-second, everyone is alone.
Immediately, the moment is gone, pierced by nervous laughter or a cliché observation. This is the moment that occurs whenever I enter a room now. It is a strange feeling, that my presence gives them a sense of mortality. It is that which I feed off of the most – the joy, the anger…the fear – the emotional value they place in time itself.

There are only a few who understand what I’m talking about. The way we smile, standing beside a crowd. The way your eyes flit over me from across a room. Did I notice those parted lips licking themselves? Don’t play coy with me. I understand you more than you realize.
